Neutralization is when an acid and a base are combined in such a way that their ph/poh=7. This means that the solution is neutral (an equal ph/poh to that of water).

Acid + Alkali --> Salt + Water
Acid + Metal --> Salt + Hydrogen gas
Acid + Carbonate --> Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide
